What were you doing 30 years ago?

Friday, August 29th, 2014

It’s 1984 …new Innkeeper Wendy J. Porterfield is opening the doors to the first guests at the Washington House Inn located in historic Cedarburg Wisconsin.  WHI is celebrating their 30th Anniversary on September 14th with an open house from 3-5 PM – and you’re invited! Wendy says: “Anyone attending will receive our new hot off the presses 30th Anniversary cookbook and here is a preview of a bit of the Inn’s history .”
Guests can choose from 2 styles of lux accommodations: rustic French Country rooms with exposed stone walls & beams, plank wood floors, and fireplaces, or the more polished Victorian rooms dressed with fine antiques, brass and marble fixtures and whirlpools … 35 rooms total.  Evening Wine & Cheese features Cedarburg wines & Wisconsin cheeses, and it’s just a 3-block walk to the Cedar Creek Settlement for fine dining & gallery shopping.  And in the morning, savor the creativity of the inn’s 3 bakers at the bountiful breakfast.  Happy Anniversary to WHI from WBBA!

Exposed stone walls hints at the Washington House Inn's 150 year history as the first hotel in Cedarburg. As additions of cream city brick were made to the wood frame structure, the hotel operated continuously.

Big-City B&Bs in Wisconsin

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Are you the type who’s drawn to big-city vacations? Perhaps it’s the lure of festivals, night life, fine dining and shopping that defines your perfect getaway. A lot of travelers are surprised to know that big cities do have B&Bs, some right on Main Street in fact. Let’s take the three largest cities in Wisconsin, starting with Milwaukee, where you’ll find a trio of mansions waiting for you - the Schuster Mansion, the Acanthus Inn and the Brumder Mansion. In Madison, Arbor House, an Environmental Inn and the Hotel Ruby Marie offer two very different experiences. In Green Bay, it’s the Astor House, hands down. Never hesitate to ask the innkeeper for their insider recommendations on the best restaurants in town and their favorite boutique shops.
