Artesian House

.................................
Now in its 15th year of operation, The Artesian House offers a unique departure in design and furnishings from the traditional concept of B&Bs.

It is also certified by Travel Green Wisconsin as one of the Bayfield businesses that has made a commitment to reduce its environmental impact.

At the end of the 1,000-foot driveway, the arriving guest is presented with an exterior design  resembling a large A-frame.  A spacious deck encircles three sides of the inn, providing space for guests to sit and chat or enjoy a drink and snack.  And, immediately apparent, just below the deck, are two solar panels, which provide about half the inn's hot water needs.

Moving inside--either through the main entrance at the north side of the inn, or the walk-out doors on the deck--the guest sees lots of open space.  The only interior walls are those that separate the three guest rooms from the great room. In addition to the 25-foot high wall of floor-to-ceiling south-facing windows, the great room features three separate conversation areas--one near the wood-burning fireplace, one at a game table (chess, checkers and cribbage) and the biggest one in the front of the room, able to accommodate all guests should all 4 rooms be occupied.  There are plenty of books and magazines, a Bose sounds system and CDs to satisfy a wide range of musical tastes.  And the inn has a wireless connection for those who can't resist staying in touch with the world.

Adjacent to the great room is the dining area, with a table that comfortably seats 8, but can handle 10, with a bit of squeezing.
Breakfasts feature main dishes such as the Dutch Baby pancake and french toast, for those with a sweet tooth, as well as egg casseroles and quiches.  All breakfasts include coffee or tea, juice and a lazy susan with granola, nuts, fresh fruit, grated coconut and yogurt.

The three guest rooms offer a variety of options for accommodating guests, but all have the common features of:  private bath, private entrance to the deck, hangers for clothes, luggage benches, individually-controlled heat and A/C and an AM/FM radio.

The Green Room has a queen bed and a two-person jacuzzi...the Grey Room has a queen and a single pullout sofabed...and the Mauve has a queen.

Newly Built B&Bs Do Exist in Wisconsin 02/02/2012 There’s a long-standing myth the B&B industry can’t seem to shake and it’s that all inns are Victorian with antiques and doilies everywhere.  It’s just not so.  Styles of architecture among B&Bs in Wisconsin run from historic mansions to lakeside cabins to ultra-contemporary new builds.  Let’s focus on that last...

Wisconsin B&Bs for Business Travelers 01/31/2012 A Wisconsin B&B may not be the first type of lodging that comes to mind when planning a business trip, but give it a try.  Lots of inns offer corporate rates and even have meeting rooms right on premise.  Other reasons to stay at a B&B for business?  It’s quiet,...

Warm Up with Soup (and Grilled Cheese) 01/25/2012 Some might call it a classic combination – tomato soup and grilled cheese.  Of course, with it being Wisconsin, we always suggest making the sandwich using an artisan cheese.  Download the brochure of artisan cheese varieties and think about pairing two or three cheeses.  Then whip up this recipe for...
