Blacksmith Inn On the Shore

The Blacksmith Inn is nestled on four hundred feet of shore on the "quiet side" of the Door Peninsula in Baileys Harbor.  Lighthouses, miles of shoreline, a marina and thousands of acres of conservancy land are within minutes.  The view, the harbor activity, the gardens, the ambiance of an earlier time; all serve to captivate the senses.

Awaken to the sounds of waves lapping the shore and seagulls announcing the arrival of a new day. Linger over breakfast on our sun washed porch overlooking the harbor as the morning light glistens on the water.  Meander down to the dock & take a double kayak for an explore. Wander over to the Ridges Sanctuary for a hike. Stroll down the sidewalk to a nearby restaurant for a relaxing dinner. Bask in your whirlpool as you take in the warm glow of the fireplace. Step onto your private balcony and gaze out on one of the most extraordinary views in Door County.

The Blacksmith Inn is comprised of the 1912 Zahn House (on the National Register of Historic Places) and the adjacent Harbor House. The two share the view and the charm of simpler times. The pairing of warm wooden floors, beamed ceilings, country antiques and in-room whirlpools, fireplaces and balconies provides the perfect setting for a memorable getaway any time of the year. All rooms have whirlpool, fireplace, private bath, one queen-size or king-size bed, individually controlled heating and air conditioning, telephone, refrigerator, satellite TV/DVD/CD, Ipod hook-up and free wireless internet. All rooms have sliding glass doors opening onto private balconies overlooking the shore, most have hammocks.  Each room has an interior door leading to the lobby.

Newly Built B&Bs Do Exist in Wisconsin 02/02/2012 There’s a long-standing myth the B&B industry can’t seem to shake and it’s that all inns are Victorian with antiques and doilies everywhere.  It’s just not so.  Styles of architecture among B&Bs in Wisconsin run from historic mansions to lakeside cabins to ultra-contemporary new builds.  Let’s focus on that last...

Wisconsin B&Bs for Business Travelers 01/31/2012 A Wisconsin B&B may not be the first type of lodging that comes to mind when planning a business trip, but give it a try.  Lots of inns offer corporate rates and even have meeting rooms right on premise.  Other reasons to stay at a B&B for business?  It’s quiet,...

Warm Up with Soup (and Grilled Cheese) 01/25/2012 Some might call it a classic combination – tomato soup and grilled cheese.  Of course, with it being Wisconsin, we always suggest making the sandwich using an artisan cheese.  Download the brochure of artisan cheese varieties and think about pairing two or three cheeses.  Then whip up this recipe for...
