Cooksville Farmhouse Inn

Cooksville Farmhouse Inn is conveniently located 20 minutes from Madison and 2 hours from Chicago. The farmhouse, originally built c. 1845, is on the National Registry of Historic Places, along with most of the village. Cooksville is a small, rural community of 35 houses that has a rich history. It is surrounded by rolling farmland and located on the Badfish Creek. Much of the surrounding land was once owned by famous statesman, Daniel Webster. The inn borders a lovely restored prairie crisscrossed by paths for walks beside the spring-fed spring in the summer and snow shoeing in the winter. The prairie is fringed by pastures that house sheep, horses, or cows, depending on the season. Enjoy the quiet, rustic, family friendly atmosphere of the farmhouse which has a soapstone woodstove and massive free standing fireplace to keep guests cozy when the snow flies, a large deck and stone patio area with sheltered table and chairs for barbecues and outdoor meals in warm weather, as well as great views of the prairie and sunsets.

Area attractions include biking the back roads, canoeing the Badfish, attending local festivals (see our website for links); shopping in antique shops, quilt shops, art studios, cheese factories; touring historic districts; visiting restaurants, golf courses, Madison Speedway, Badger games, etc.

The Master Suite, located on the first floor, is a light and airy bedroom with private bath, Jacuzzi, a walk in closet, and a king size bed.

The Prairie Suite on the second floor of the farmhouse is well suited for families with children and includes 3 bedrooms and a shared bath with tub and shower. The Coneflower Room has a queen bed. The Compass Plant Room has 3 twin beds with a twin trundle. The Blue Stem Room has 2 twin beds as well as a twin mattress that can be pulled out. These 3 rooms are part of the original 1845 house and have the old fir plank floors and exposed, hand hewn timbers.
Reserve the entire house for $135 per night for 2 people.  Add $40 per room per night to rent one or more of the 3 additional bedrooms.  For groups of more than 9 people there will be a surcharge of $15 per night for each additional person.
We provide pre-packaged and bakery prepared continental breakfast .  Guests are welcome to use the kitchen facilities which include microwave, stove, oven, toaster, dishwasher, refrigerator, cooking utensils, pots and pans, baking dishes and service for 8. . The Cooksville Store is located 2 doors north and sells a variety of grocery products and beverages.   There is a lending library of books in the sun room and upstairs. In cold weather we will build you fires in the fireplace and woodstove to enjoy. Besides the dining room there are 2 sitting rooms with comfortable easy chairs, rockers and hide-a-bed couch.

There is a 2 night minimum on weekends from May 1 to Nov 1.  Friday and Saturday must be rented together. No split weekends.

Retreats
Organize your own retreat around interests or activities such as music, scrap booking, quilting, bicycling, family reunion, church groups, homeschoolers, wedding gatherings, canoeing. The house has ample room in common areas for working around tables, rehearsing, small group discussions and large group meetings.

Group Tours of Historic Cooksville can be arranged. A guided walking tour that includes an introductory lecture on the history of Cooksville at the Cooksville Schoolhouse (Community Center), followed by a guided walking tour of the village, viewing the exteriors of about 20 historic buildings can be scheduled through the Community Center or through the Historic Cooksville Trust. This tour takes about 1½ hours. A house tour that lasts about 2½ hours can also be arranged that includes visiting the interiors of 2 or more historic homes in addition to the walking tour listed above. Please inquire for contact information and group rates.
