Dreams of Yesteryear

Four generations of the Jensen family lived in this 1901 Victorian Queen Anne National Historic Register home until 1987 when it was purchased by its present owners, Bonnie and Bill Maher.  Even before becoming a bed and breakfast, Dreams of Yesteryear was featured in VICTORIAN HOMES Magazine, MIDWEST LIVING and numerous other publications. In addition, Dreams of Yesteryear has won both state and regional awards for historic preservation including the Wisconsin Bed and Breakfast President's Award.

LOCATION:  Dreams of Yesteryear is conveniently located in the heart of Stevens Point in a quiet residential area among architecturally historic beauties.  Historic Dreams of Yesteryear is appropriately situated within the official boundaries of the historic Stevens Point downtown business district.  Guests have easy access (1 block) to the Wisconsin River and Green Circle biking/hiking trails. Excellent restaurants, antique shops, quaint downtown shops, a fabulous brewery tour, a picnic by the river, museums and more await you within easy walking distance.

ROOMS:  Visitors to Dreams of Yesteryear can choose from six antique filled rooms including two third floor suites--one with a whirlpool. Each room is unique.  The Ballroom Suite and Heritage Suite are located on the third floor and are especially unique since the third floor was originally built as a ballroom. No where are the architectural features classifying this home as a Queen Anne style more apparent.
The second floor includes rooms named after a few of the home’s original family members and is unique in its own right.  The Isabella Room features bay windows, a small library and an old fashion attached bathroom with a footed tub and pull-chain water closet.  The Florence Myrna Room decorated in gardenia wall coverings has a neo-angular shower and overlooks the formal and informal gardens.  Gareld's Room is decorated in powder blue French wallpaper and is the room nearest the balcony. Guests can sit out on the balcony and enjoy a wonderful view of the old neighborhood.  Finally, the Maid's Quarters is beautifully simple and has its own stairway.  Positioned proudly on the dresser is a photograph of a former maid who came to visit and stayed once again in her old room.

AMENITIES:   Each room contains a binder full of interesting stories about the history of the house as researched by a local historian as well as restoration stories written by the owners who have hands-on experience restoring this marvelous house.Hair dryers, irons, ironing boards are available.  Bedrooms with attached private baths also include cable TV’s.  All rooms have access to wireless internet.
Guests are invited to enjoy refreshments in front of the original brass and iron fireplace and view our restoration album, or, as we fondly call it, our "sweat equity album." Or, you may wish to enjoy the parlors while spinning a tune on the antique victrola, viewing photos through a stereopticon, or playing a tune on an antique upright piano.  In addition, guests are invited to relax on our three-season porch overlooking the gardens or to relax in any of the patio areas around the property.

BREAKFAST:   Included in the price of your room is a full gourmet breakfast served each morning on dining room furniture that is original to the house.  Menu items may include delectables like Cinnamon Nut Oatcakes, Blueberry Bonus French Toast, or our German Apple Pancake.  On a special diet?  Do you need an early breakfast?   Dreams of Yesteryear will do their best to accommodate you if you let us know in advance.  Breakfast time is usually decided when guests arrive.  However, generally speaking, breakfast is served at 7:30 on weekdays and 8:30 on weekends.
