Hillcrest Inn and Carriage House

Tranquility awaits visitors at The Hillcrest Inn & Carriage House.  Guests enter through the gates of the original stone pillars to approach the 1908 Edwardian estate.  A panoramic seven-mile view of waterways is framed by foliage and flower gardens, which abound on the four-acre property.  Relaxing on the porches or taking a quiet stroll to the ornate gazebo nestled in the woods are experiences to be treasured.

The main house has been meticulously restored to its original splender, offering the guest warmth, serenity, and beauty.  Turn of the century furnishings in rooms with private baths take the guest back in time to a more peaceful and elegant era.  Lace curtains on the windows, down comforters on the beds, classical music drifting up the staircase and the aroma of cinnamon wafting from the oven are sure to please the weary traveler.  A formal four-course breakfast, which always includes a taste of chocolate, is served on fine china and stemware in the dining room each morning.

The carriage house has been redesigned to offer luxurious rooms with private entrances, private baths, whirlpools, and/or fireplaces.  The former caretakers' quarters is now a charming second floor suite.  Guests who are seeking a romantic, secluded escape will find it in these upscale accommodations.

Newly Built B&Bs Do Exist in Wisconsin 02/02/2012 There’s a long-standing myth the B&B industry can’t seem to shake and it’s that all inns are Victorian with antiques and doilies everywhere.  It’s just not so.  Styles of architecture among B&Bs in Wisconsin run from historic mansions to lakeside cabins to ultra-contemporary new builds.  Let’s focus on that last...

Wisconsin B&Bs for Business Travelers 01/31/2012 A Wisconsin B&B may not be the first type of lodging that comes to mind when planning a business trip, but give it a try.  Lots of inns offer corporate rates and even have meeting rooms right on premise.  Other reasons to stay at a B&B for business?  It’s quiet,...

Warm Up with Soup (and Grilled Cheese) 01/25/2012 Some might call it a classic combination – tomato soup and grilled cheese.  Of course, with it being Wisconsin, we always suggest making the sandwich using an artisan cheese.  Download the brochure of artisan cheese varieties and think about pairing two or three cheeses.  Then whip up this recipe for...
