Inn at Lonesome Hollow

The Lonesome Hollow Inn is located half way between the villages of Gays Mills and Soldiers Grove Wisconsin. Life is different in the Kickapoo Valley - a little slower, much less hectic, similar to life in America 50 years ago. The counties around us are the most rural in the southern two-thirds of Wisconsin. The landscape throughout the Driftless Area is one of continuous hills and valleys and is truly unique in the upper midwest. Trout streams are too numerous to count, and trout fishing is simply excellent. In reference to larger cities, we are one hour south of LaCrosse, one hour north of Dubuque, Iowa, and a little less than two hours west of Madison.

Our Inn is situated on 160 rural acres; about 100 acres are wooded, a hardwood forest mix of mostly oak and maple. About half of our property lies in our completely private valley, and the other half lies 300 feet higher in elevation on a ridgetorp. Many gardens,  four miles of hiking trails, a small vineyard, and a large pond are here for the use of our guests.

In the main Inn you will find three deluxe bedrooms, each with a private bath and gas fireplace; two of the inn's rooms have two-person whirlpool tubs for your relaxation. Wireless internet is available at the main inn. Most of the bed and breakfast's furnishings are locally made by Amish craftsmen in the Cashton settlement. Amish quilts cover some of our beds. Across from the main inn is the Cedar Cabin, a modern, two bedroom cabin with full kitchen, satellite TV, gas fireplace, air conditioning, and a wonderful deck and screenhouse. We welcome children and small dogs in the Cedar Cabin. Our newest house is located in the most private section of our valley. The Homestead features two separate two-bedroom suites. The suites may be rented individually or the entire Homestead may be rented for groups of up to 8 people - four bedrooms, two baths, two whirlpools, two fireplaces, full kitchen, total privacy - a great group facility.

Enjoy hiking in all 5 nearby state or national parks, canoeing or kayaking the Kickapoo or Wisconsin Rivers, biking the nearby rails to trails, or the sparsely traveled roads of Crawford County.  Drive the hundreds of miles of scenic roads, in and out of the valleys, along the rivers, into the Amish country, and up to the ridgetop apple orchards. Enjoy the local festivals and county fairs, local golf courses, or antique shops; or perhaps a Mississippe River cruise would intrique you!

We offer spectacular scenery, a remarkably peaceful setting, and some of the finest lodging accommodations in the region. Anyway you choose to enjoy your stay with us,  you will experience the rural tranquility and rugged beauty of the Driftless Area!
