Justin Trails Bed and Breakfast Resort

Welcoming couples for romantic getaways and families seems an oxymoron to some.  At Justin Trails Resort it makes perfect sense, with 208 acres, suites and separate cabins give plenty of room for all guests.  The healthy menu of Justin Trails Resort includes specially blended granola, yogurt, fresh fruit or fruit sauce, muffins or scones, a hot entree of scrambled eggs, pancakes or French toast or bacon served on the side. Choice of  juices, coffee or tea, hot cider or hot chocolate.  Breakfast is served in The Lodge for guests or may be delivered to your suite or cabin.

Pull on your hiking shoes for a round of 18 basket disc golf.  The courses have elevation changes, concrete tee boxes, a water hazard; some tees are open, some through hickory, walnut and oak forest.  The courses meander across great vistas and through secluded valleys.

In winter, the white wonderland is groomed for Nordic skiing- skate or stride, snowshoeing, or snow tubing, skijoring and dog sledding.  Lessons, ski & snowshoe rental are available in the Lodge.

In warm seasons, 20 miles of trails are mowed for hiking and mountain biking.  Choose a short, easy hike to Dawn's Pond or stretch up the hill to Gerry's Peak.  In any season, access these trails right out the back door.

Organic certification means there have been no chemicals applied to the fields since 2008.

Located near the famous Elroy-Sparta State Bike Trail, The Great River Trail, La Crosse River Trail and the 400 Trail for a total of 104 miles of biking or hiking on crushed limestone surface.  Sparta, Wisconsin is the western end of the Elroy-Sparta Trail and the headquarters for the La Crosse River Trail.  Bike rental and shuttle service is available from Speeds Bike Shop in Sparta, WI.

Canoe or kayak the La Crosse, Black, or Kickapoo River.  Rent a boat in La Crosse for a cruise on the Mississippi River.  Fish on: Perch Lake, Lake Neshonoc, Lake Onalaska or Coon Creek in Timber Coulee.  Coon Creek is the most productive trout stream in Wisconsin.

Your pet will thank you for including him/her in your travel plans.  Respecting guests with allergies, we have hardwood floors in all accommodations that clean easily and thoroughly. There are miles of trails for hikes, mountain bike rides or bring your own horse to ride the trails or choose the quiet surroundings for naps.  If you do not have a pet, George and Heidi, our white Siberian huskies, will be happy to be taken on a walk by you.  Dusty and Rusty, the llamas will enjoy a snack from your hand. (available in the mailbox next to their pen) or take them for a guided llama trek.  All of our pets have their own homes.  None of our pets live in guest areas.

Bring your binoculars and camera. Fifty plus species have been documented in 2011.  Climb the hill to the enclosed wildlife viewing stand.  Perched twelve feet in the air, you can quietly spy on squirrels, birds, hawks, deer and turkeys. Find the other viewing stand just off a snowshoe trail.

Stroll through three acres of gardens with perennials that begin blooming in March and continue through October.  Select a plant(s) to purchase for your own garden.  Donna will pot them for you.

Numerous couples have been compelled to create wedding plans during their visit to Justin Trails Resort.  We host weddings of fewer than 300 guests for the ceremony, reception or both.  The large silver maples, various pine trees, yews and the historic red barn make beautiful backgrounds for wedding photos.  We have a large open field for a tent and grassy parking area.  Best of all, book the whole resort for a quiet, private intimate space for you and your wedding guests.

We are Travel Green Certified so our personal and innkeeping philosophy is to be sustainable and environmentally sensitive.  We have found new use for several farm buildings, selective harvest our 150 acre woodlot and insist on maintaining the strip cropping to prevent soil erosion on 70 acres of cropland.  We grow our food and gardens organically.  Our recreational offerings are human powered disc golf on two 18 basket courses, hiking, mountain biking, or bring your own horse. In winter there is groomed cross country skiing, snowshoeing and snowtubing, skijoring and dog sledding all right out the back door.  Equipment rental is handled in the Lodge.

Fly in.  It's an easy drive through the Coulee Region via I-90 to Justin Trails Resort located just 45 minutes from the La Crosse Municipal airport (LSE).

If you are a NASCAR racing fan, La Crosse Interstate Speedway is only twenty minutes away.  The Grand National Tractor & Truck Pull is held in nearby Tomah, WI.

Nearby Viroqua is a growing, stimulating community with a Waldorf School, Viroqua Food Coop, and Main Street Station Public Market.  Folks of many artistic persuasions are finding culture in the Driftless Region of SW Wisconsin.

Naturally we create joy with quality lodging and recreation in an organic environment.

Newly Built B&Bs Do Exist in Wisconsin 02/02/2012 There’s a long-standing myth the B&B industry can’t seem to shake and it’s that all inns are Victorian with antiques and doilies everywhere.  It’s just not so.  Styles of architecture among B&Bs in Wisconsin run from historic mansions to lakeside cabins to ultra-contemporary new builds.  Let’s focus on that last...

Wisconsin B&Bs for Business Travelers 01/31/2012 A Wisconsin B&B may not be the first type of lodging that comes to mind when planning a business trip, but give it a try.  Lots of inns offer corporate rates and even have meeting rooms right on premise.  Other reasons to stay at a B&B for business?  It’s quiet,...

Warm Up with Soup (and Grilled Cheese) 01/25/2012 Some might call it a classic combination – tomato soup and grilled cheese.  Of course, with it being Wisconsin, we always suggest making the sandwich using an artisan cheese.  Download the brochure of artisan cheese varieties and think about pairing two or three cheeses.  Then whip up this recipe for...
