Phipps Inn Bed and Breakfast

The Phipps Inn is the premier Queen Anne Victorian bed and breakfast in the St. Croix River Valley of Western Wisconsin. It is located on Historic Third Street in the beautiful city of Hudson, Wisconsin where it is a short walk to downtown restaurants, shops and the river.

Our guests enjoy our many common areas including a Billiards Room, two porches, and three parlors which are all spacious, warm and elegant. We are known for our four course gourmet breakfasts. Every morning guests savor delicious fare including chilled juices, fresh brewed coffees, and assorted teas. The homemade pastries are perfect companions to the delectable entrees and fresh fruits. You may choose breakfast service in the dining room or the privacy of your guest room.

We are also known for our friendly yet unobtrusive hospitality. We specialize in the three Rs: romance, relax and refresh.

All Phipps Inn guest rooms have fireplaces, whirlpool tubs, bathrobes, and Gilchrist & Soames toiletries. Soft drinks, bottled water and plenty of chocolate snacks are complimentary and available at all times.

Here are our rooms and suites:

Queen Anne's Suite
Formerly the maid's chamber, this royal room boasts a flickering gas fireplace seen on one side from the antique half-canopy brass feather bed, and on the other side from the large sunken whirlpool tub in the sun porch. Soak in the original claw foot tub, luxuriate in the double shower, or view the sun setting on the St. Croix.

Bridget's Suite
This romantic suite features a four-poster white wicker canopy bed and original Italian tiled wood-burning fireplace. The whirlpool bath is in the gorgeous over-sized bathroom. Look out in all four directions from the windows in the octagonal turret. The natural light gives this room a special glow. Bridget's Suite was on the cover of "Victorian Decorating and Lifestyle".

Master Suite
Mr. & Mrs. Phipps slept in this handsome room featuring a pine four-poster canopy bed. Similar in size to the Bridal Suite, the Master Suite also has an original Italian tiled wood-burning fireplace and stunning bathroom. Climb through the window to a small, private, screened porch and watch the sun set over the St. Croix.

Peacock Chamber
This redwood-paneled room offers a new, breathtaking, mahogany half-tester bed. The fireplace can be seen from the bed as well as from the large whirlpool tub that will delight you with its built-in waterfall. The peacocks provide an elegant welcome. This is a room you won't want to leave!

Willow Chamber
The Willow Chamber derives its name from the soft willow-colored walls. Enjoy the fireplace from the wrought-iron, four-poster, curtained bed. The double whirlpool tub is under the eaves with a view down to the St. Croix River. You'll have quiet seclusion in this third floor retreat.

Victoria's Room
An intimate and charming room with bay windows and a brass bed. The antique furnishings, unique whirlpool bath and shower, and fireplace at the foot of the bed will enchant you. This cozy room is decorated in Victorian lace and floral motif and awaits your special evening.

Biking, boating, skiing, and hiking are among the activities enjoyed by our guests. The Phipps Center for the Arts in downtown Hudson offers plays, concerts, and galleries. For additional entertainment, we are six miles from Stillwater and thirty minutes from the Mall of America and the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. There's always something to do in the St. Croix area!

We're close to home, yet a hundred years away. Let the Phipps Inn become your favorite escape for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays or no special occasion at all! Gift certificates may be ordered on line or by phone and are the perfect gift.

Come and experience Victorian elegance.

Newly Built B&Bs Do Exist in Wisconsin 02/02/2012 There’s a long-standing myth the B&B industry can’t seem to shake and it’s that all inns are Victorian with antiques and doilies everywhere.  It’s just not so.  Styles of architecture among B&Bs in Wisconsin run from historic mansions to lakeside cabins to ultra-contemporary new builds.  Let’s focus on that last...

Wisconsin B&Bs for Business Travelers 01/31/2012 A Wisconsin B&B may not be the first type of lodging that comes to mind when planning a business trip, but give it a try.  Lots of inns offer corporate rates and even have meeting rooms right on premise.  Other reasons to stay at a B&B for business?  It’s quiet,...

Warm Up with Soup (and Grilled Cheese) 01/25/2012 Some might call it a classic combination – tomato soup and grilled cheese.  Of course, with it being Wisconsin, we always suggest making the sandwich using an artisan cheese.  Download the brochure of artisan cheese varieties and think about pairing two or three cheeses.  Then whip up this recipe for...
