River House
River HouseHostess Agnes Breitzman has created the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Let the smell of freshly brewed coffee and a beautifully prepared Wisconsin breakfast gently wake you from your slumber. For guests who want to unwind, try basking in the dappled sunlight on the huge deck or relaxing in the private whirlpool in the Pine Suite. Visitors craving action may go out and experience one of many outdoor activities available in the area. In winter time, there's cross-country or downhill skiing at facilities both north and south. A snow mobile trail runs right across the street. When your adventures are over, come back and snuggle up next to the wood-burning stove and watch as the sun sets. Families can enjoy an action-packed day at Wisconsin Dells. Then, when everyone's had enough stimulation, return to the relaxing economy of our rural setting. There's swimming in a nearby lake or floating down the Mecan River, grilling and eating out in the spacious River House yard, driving, hiking or biking the many scenic byways. The Pine Suite is a first-floor master bedroom with private bath and whirlpool tub, and patio door access to the deck revealing beautiful views of only the river and woods. Upstairs are the Babbling Brook and Woodland rooms, which share a bathroom and a central loft containing an entertainment corner with L-shaped couch, a fireplace, television and DVD player. There's a mini-kitchen with microwave, refrigerator, coffeepot and sink. Rounding out this family retreat area is a balcony overlooking the backyard and river. All rooms have queen-size beds, and ample closet space. In the immediate area, Marquette, Adams and Waushara counties have unique wildlife areas and restored prairies. Wild Turkeys and Sand Hill Cranes have returned in abundance, and occasionally endangered Whooping Cranes and Prairie Chickens can be spotted. Wildlife is abundant, especially deer, rabbits and squirrels, and many public hunting grounds can be found nearby. Mount Morris, with it's ski and snowboarding facility for winter fun, and the Black Hawk Folk Festival in the village park in July, is only about 20 miles to the northeast. Nearby Amish communities have shops where baked and canned goods, and hand-made furniture and decor, will please shoppers seeking Americana. Despite the quiet, rural nature of The River House, the nearby communities of Coloma and Wautoma offer the convenience of business establishments for dining, shopping, and services. The River House is within an hour's drive to the south of Wisconsin Dells (water park capital of the world), Baraboo (Circus World Museum) and Portage (new Aldo Leopold Center). To the north is Stevens Point, and to the west are Adams/Friendship and Wisconsin Rapids (paper making museum). To the east are the Fox Valley cities of Oshkosh (museums include the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Paine Art Museum) and Appleton (Lawrence University). Drive just a little farther, and you're in Green Bay, where you can spend a day experiencing Lambeau Field and the Packer Hall of Fame, Curly's Pub, and nearby Brett Favre's Steak House. Even Door County, with it's white sand beaches on Lake Michigan and unique shopping villages and light houses, is a reasonable day trip, as is the state Capitol of Madison to the south. You can explore the heart of Wisconsin, and wherever you go, you'll return to this extremely clean, well-kept, modern home-away-from-home. The River House has all of the modern conveniences: wet bar, complimentary wine and soft drinks, TV, DVD's, and full country kitchen. Guest quote: "My favorite part about staying at the River House is sleeping with the windows open and listening to the rushing river outside my window." | |||||||||||||||||||
