Stewart Inn

Located in the Andrew Warren Historic District, the Stewart Inn offers upscale accommodations and a gourmet breakfast in an authentic National Register Arts and Crafts masterpiece. Public rooms on the first floor retain the incredible architectural detail created 100 years ago by Chicago architect, George W. Maher, a contemporary and associate of Frank Lloyd Wright. The second floor serves as an exclusive five-room boutique hotel where the owners take pride in providing guests with the highest level of personal service. Each of the newly renovated guest rooms has an ensuite bath and tasteful combination of modern amenities and historic charm, sure to please even the most discriminating travelers. The Inn is fully equipped for the business traveler and offers a comfortable, secure alternative to conventional lodging. If you're traveling with a dog, you'll find the accommodations extremely pet-friendly.

GUEST ROOMS: Renovated in 2002, all five guest rooms are spacious, bright, and furnished with solid oak period furniture. Each room has a private bath with extraordinary fixtures, including a steam spa. Hot water heat and central air conditioning ensure comfort in all seasons. Features original to the building, such as light fixtures, art glass windows, fireplaces, and built-in bookcases give each room a unique charm. Standard furnishings include Stearns and Foster mattresses, pure cotton, high thread count sheets and duvets, down pillows and comforters, plush towels and robes, oak floors with coordinating area rugs, signed artwork, large windows, full-length mirrors, hair driers, flat screen TVs with cable, DVD/CD players, desks, telephones, wireless Internet, and data ports. Three rooms have fireplaces, one has a private veranda and claw foot tub.

WAUSAU ATTRACTIONS: The Stewart Inn is located in downtown Wausau's  historic River District. A short walk from the Inn are shops and restaurants, the Grand Theater which hosts a variety of live performances, and the Center for the Visual Arts gallery all nestled around a lively town square. The Inn is two blocks from an excellent YMCA and five blocks from the Wisconsin River walking path and whitewater kayak course. At the top of East Hill is the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, known for its annual Birds in Art exhibit. Five miles from the Inn, sports enthusiasts will find Granite Peak ski area, Rib Mountain State Park and the Mountain Bay bike trail. Less than ten miles from the Inn, Nine Mile Forest attracts hikers, mountain bikers and cross county skiers.

LOCATION: Wausau is in the middle of Wisconsin at the junction of Hwy 29 and Hwy 51/I39. Although a destination in itself, Wausau also makes a great stopover when traveling between Minneapolis/St Paul and Green Bay/Door County or between Chicago and Bayfield or the upper peninsula of Michigan.

Two More B&B Myths to Dispel 02.10.2010
Time to dispel a B&B myth or two.  First, there’s this notion that innkeepers hover. Not true. They are there when you need them, but otherwise keep busy behind the scenes while respecting your privacy. Just like the best five-star hotels. Myth #2: You have to eat breakfast at a communal table. The answer in many cases is no.  Some [...]

Performing Arts Season Is Music To B&Bers Ears 02.10.2010
Seems some of our innkeepers believe in the sound of music to soothe the weary traveler.  There’s a Jazz Brunch at Fountain Chateau B&B in Hustler.  A regular sing-along to benefit local charities at the Audubon Inn in Mayville.  And on-site concerts at the Parsonage B&B in Madison and Tufts’ Mansion in Neillsville. In Green [...]

Winners of 2009 Wisconsin B&B Recipe Cook-off 01.11.2010
A comfortable bed is just half of the B&B promise.  The other half is food!  The end of the year brought the second annual Wisconsin B&B cook-off with innkeepers around the state competing for bragging rights.  This year’s featured ingredient was wild rice.  Did you know it’s a grain and tastes incredibly good in both [...]
