At the confluence of the Chippewa and Eau Claire rivers in the Chippewa Valley, a beautiful site first seen by French fur traders in the late 1700s, sits the city of Eau Claire. Visitors are treated to that same scenic beauty, now from the vantage point of winding bike trails and area golf courses.
The locals in River Falls call it a “Dream Town” and why not -- after all, it's been rated one of the best small cities in the United States. On any given summer evening, trout anglers can be spotted wading in the nearby Kinnickinnic River, one of the Midwest's few naturally sustaining trout fisheries. Farther north is Osceola, a quaint historic town on the beautiful St. Croix River, offering railway tours from spring through autumn.
In Neillsville's historic downtown, you'll find 21 buildings listed on the state and national historic registers. On the community's outskirts, visitors are also drawn to the solemnity of The Highground Veterans Memorial Park, a 140-acre park that is a place of healing and hope, with views from the plaza to a half-million acres of woodlands and glacial moraines.

Great River Shakespeare Festival | |
|
Event Details: A month-long tribute to the Bard at Winona State University in Winona, MN. Love’s Labours Lost “Our court will be a little academe. . .” Shakespeare’s gorgeous, hilarious, and poignant comedy of living life in moderation gives us a wealth of comic characters: the eight young lovers, a pompous pedant, an amorous Spaniard, a daffy village curate, and the sensibly lusty and lustily sensible village milkmaid and her charming if lackadaisacal suitor. Read more The Tempest “We are such stuff as dreams are made on . . . “ Does forgiveness mend the soul of the forgiven, or does it rather heal the one who forgives? Prospero, a banished Duke marooned on an enchanted island, spends much of his life feeling righteous indignation for the suffering his evil brother has inflicted on him. But in this extraordinary soulful romance (which unfolds over the course of only one day), he finds his own humanity, seeks grace rather than revenge, and becomes the pilot of his own salvation. This surprising and physically bold production explores the limits of human endurance and the far reaches of the human spirit. Hamlet “The readiness is all. . .” Shakespeare’s masterwork, as performed by the 2009 Apprentice and Intern Company. Festival founding artist Rick Barbour directs this intimate production in the Black Box Theater. |
