The bed & breakfasts of the Northwest region welcome you to Wisconsin’s premier four season vacation land. Bordered on the north by the rugged shoreline of beautiful Lake Superior, this is a land of hundreds of lakes and streams, the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, The St. Croix National Scenic Waterway, and the Apostle Islands National Seashore. The Mississippi River gracefully defines the western boundary of the region. Towering bluffs frame teeming backwaters and sloughs to provide contrast and a wide variety of vistas and lookouts.
Year round activities include sightseeing, wildlife viewing/bird watching, museums, antique shops, specialty shops in our small towns and dining at the region’s many fine restaurants.
Summer is a time to relax and enjoy our pleasant weather and slow pace on uncrowded trails and lakes. Fishing for musky, northern pike, and trout is extremely popular and productive as well. Golfers enjoy the many excellent golf courses found throughout the Northwest. The fall colors in our region are spectacular and visitors can indulge in designated Fall Color Tours, or explore the foliage on their own. Hunters and hikers enjoy the crisp fall in the beauty of our many forest lands.
When winter snow arrives, cross-country skiers will find that this area’s ski trails are among the best in the world, with trails for all levels of skiers. Snowshoeing is also a popular recreation in our area. With the return of longer and warmer days in spring, wildlife enthusiasts and photographers will enjoy the migration and returning birds, as well as the reappearance of flowers, reawakening of trees and the emergence of animals.
The Northwest has special events and activities through the year. The Bayfield area hosts the annual Apple Festival and special Christmas events. The Cable/Hayward area hosts the world-renowned Birkebeiner ski race in February and the Midwest’s premier mountain bike race, while the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival is held in September. Grand View annually hosts the Firehouse 50, a bicycle road race in early August, and Stone Lake celebrates the cranberry harvest with a Cranberry Festival in September/October.
You won’t want to miss the varieties of adventure here in the Northwest region of Wisconsin. Come and visit us. Our hospitality is worth the trip.
